Biography:
He was born in Jacarezinho ( a poor neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro ), on January, 29th of 1966. He had problems to take breath until his adolescence. After moved to Vila da Penha, 20 kilometers far from Rio de Janeiro, Romário begun play soccer, his "familiarity" with the ball... His father, Edevair, became glad seeing the ability of the kid to control the ball. Romário has 9 years old. In 1979, Vasco da Gama discovered him, but it thought he was too short and small, and Vasco decided not to acept him. So, he went to another club called Olaria. Romário scored 7 goals playing to Olaria in 1979. After 1980, Romário became famous playing to Vasco da Gama, PSV ( Holland ) and Barcelona ( Spain ). He was three times champs of Dutch League ( 88/89, 91/92, 92/93 ) and twice the Holland Cup ( 89/90, 90/91 ). In 1991 he was the best soccer player in Europe. In 1993, trying his back to Brazil national team, Romário decided change of team and move to Barcelona ( Johan Cruyff was the coach ) , where he won one title, the 4th of Barcelona in a row. Romário had problems with the Brazil's coach Carlos Alberto Parreira and Mario Jorge Lobo Zagallo. But Brazil ask by Romário. He's playing so well, but Parreira and Zagallo convocated him only in the last Brazil qualify game ( to USA'94 ), which Brazil needed to win. Romário came to Brazil, played against Uruguay, scored 2 goals and Brazil win ( 2x0 ) and Brazil was in USA World Cup. After this, Romário went to USA and he won the gold boots, because he was the best player of USA'94 World Cup. Plus, he helped Brazil to win it. After the World Cup, Romário was bought by Flamengo to play with Bebeto. Romário costed US$4,5 millons. Romário told to a newspaper from Brazil "I'm a Flamengo fan since kid". In 1996, playing to Flamengo, he won the rio de Janeiro league ( only teams from Rio de Janeiro state ) and he was the top scorer with 26 goals.
