Biography:
Almost single-handedly, Bill Shankly turned Liverpool Football Club from just a club like any other, to one of the greatest in Europe. During his reign from the late 50s to the early 70s, he took Liverpool from the 2nd division to league titles, FA Cup wins and a glorious UEFA cup triumph. Also, he provided the platfrom from which the club`s later managers had every chance of continuing the club`s line of victories. But it was not only through his results that he became so influential; through his strong personality, his ability to communicate with the fans, and his fanatical approach to the football ame, he achieved a god-like stature on Merseyside. The relationship he had with the fans, has quite rightly been branded the "greatest ever fan-manager relationship". Sadly, Bill passed away in 1981, but he still has a legendary position in English football, as the raising of the statue of him outside Anfield in November 1997, fully shows.
