Biography:
Jean Beliveau is perhaps the most popular Montreal Canadien to ever grace the Forum. It was virtually impossible to check the 6'3", 205 pound center from Trois Rivers, Quebec, where he was already a legend even before joining the Habs. Beliveau earned 1st team All-Star status 6 times and played in 13 all-star games. Beliveau won both the Art Ross trophy and the Hart trophy in 1956, and added a second Hart trophy 8 years later. In 1965, Beliveau was awarded the Conn Smythe trophy as most valuable player in the playoffs. Beliveau scored 507 regular season goals and added 712 assists. In the post season his numbers read 79-97-176 in only 162 playoff games. Did I mention that Beliveau played on 10 Stanley Cup winners? After moving to a position in the front office, Beliveau's name was added to the Cup 7 more times as an executive. Beliveau is honored with the Jean Beliveau trophy, an award that is given to the top scorer in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
