| Alexei was born on March 19, 1629 and was consecrated Czar on July 16, 1645, after the death of his father. He married twice to Maria Miloslayskaya and Natalia Naryshkina whilst having 21 children from those marriages. He was considered as one of the most educated men of his time, known as “Tishaishii” (most quiet one) and he wrote and edited many important decrees and documents. His rule was characterized as very successful while he was very involved in the social aspects of Russia. Among the many achievements, his greatest in foreign policy is considered to be the unification of Russia with Ukraine. |
