Biography:
The first African American to win a medal at the Winter Olympics, Debi Thomas skated against Katarina Witt in 1988 at Calgary, taking the bronze as Witt took the gold. After her Olympic career, she toured for several years then returned to school. Thomas completed her education to become a physician, and planned to become an orthopedic surgeon.
