Career Highlights: 2002 & 2003 U.S. Indoor 400m Champion; 2000 Olympic 4x400m gold medalist; 1996 NCAA Indoor 400 and Outdoor 800 champion; 1994 World Junior gold (4x400m) and silver (400m) medalist A national champion while in high school and college, Hennagan earned her first USA senior title at 400m at the 2002 USA Indoor Championships, and she successfully defended her title in 2003 before going on to win a bronze medal in the 4x400m relay at the World Indoor Championships…started running in elementary school because of all the encouragement she got when she regularly beat her boy schoolmates and cousins in footraces...was twice ranked the top high school 400m runner in the nation, and as a senior, clocked the nine fastest times in the nation. She was also an all-state volleyball player and played basketball in high school. She won 12 state titles in high school, despite not being able to compete in the state meet as a 9th-grader because she went to a private school...Hennagan was the first North Carolina woman to win an NCAA title. She earned her degree in psychology and African American studies and moved home to Columbia in 1998 to train with University of South Carolina coach Curtis Frye. She says it’s very convenient to be able to train with Frye’s world-class crew in her hometown: ‘I’m more at home. I can stay here and train even over the holidays’...has applied with Lutheran Services to be a mentor for children in the foster care system and would eventually like to be more involved in community youth programs...works part-time for UPS, who provides her with health benefits and a steady income as a part of its Athlete Training Assistance Program (ATAP). She is a part-time Human Resources Supervisor and recruiter for hub operations.
