| 'O Bicho' - the animal - is the nickname that has been given to Jorge Costa by his FC Porto team-mates and coaches. The teak-tough team captain is already a legend at the club, embodying the fighting spirit of Porto.
National team
An excellent man-marker, the central defender starred in Portugal's FIFA World Youth Championship success in 1991 and made his full international debut in 1992 against Bulgaria. Jorge Costa was ever-present at UEFA EURO 2000™ in partnership with Fernando Couto and kept his place at the finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup after starting in eight of his country's ten Group 2 qualifying matches. He retired with 50 caps following Portugal's elimination.
