| After twelve years of efforts, the cyclist from Navarre (Spain) has accomplished one of the greatest hits in the history of sport, that is winning 5 Tours of France in a row. This is something that only the greatest in cycling, such as Anquetil, Merckx or Hinault, could do. However, none of them won the tours consecutively. For Miguel this is the peak of his successful career. Miguel Indurain Larraya, was born in Villava on July 16th, 1964. It was in this small village in the province of Navarre where he started cycling as a member of the "Club Ciclista Villav?s". His very first card from the Spanish cycling federation in the category of cadet dates back to 1978. He signed up for Reynols Team, and won the Spanish Amateur Championship, this was his launching pad for professional cycling. Many years of efforts with the Banesto Team gave way to the most important cycling events, Tour de France, Giro de Italia, Clasicas, The World Championship, the Hour Record, there is nothing that this great sportsman and also great man cannot get. |
