Biography:
Dallas Long was truly one of the great throwers in the history of the sport. He won the first Mt. SAC Relays shot put title in 1959, and also recorded wins in '61, '62 and '64. His '64 mark of 63-10 1/4" stood as the Relays' meet record through 1968. While competing at USC, Long won the NCAA title three consecutive years ('60, '61, '62). In '61 he also captured the AAU National Championship. Long's greatest accomplishments took place at the Olympic Games. At the 1960 Rome Olympics, he captured the bronze medal. At the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, he won the gold medal, assuring him a spot with the all-time greats. Long tied or broke the World Record an astounding six times between the years 1959 and 1964. During this time, he also was credited with seven official American Records. His final world record, 67-10, was also his PR in the event.
