| 1835-1908. The first IOC president. Born in Syros, Vikelas was a successful merchant and a well known writer. In 1894 he represented Panellinios gymnastic club at the Paris congress convened by Pierre de Coubertin, where the modern Olympic movement was born, and convinced the newly founded IOC to hold the first Olympics in Athens. |
