Heralded as the new Antonio Cabrini, great things were expected from Andrea Fortunato. He made his name in 1992-93 at Genoa where he and Christian Panucci caught the eye. Big money moves followed with Panucci joining Milan and Fortunato off to Juventus. By September of his first season in Turin he made his international debut in the 3-0 away win in Estonia.
However, as the season progressed his form dipped. It was later revealed that the talented left back had contracted leukaemia. Two transplants later, Fortunato died in April 1995. He would have been a giant. |
